Creating QR Code Inventory Labels with Avery Design & Print

Use Avery Design & Print to create sequential QR code labels for your inventory.

Step 1: Select Your Label Template

Open Avery Design & Print.
Select the Avery label size you want to use.
We recommend 1” Square Labels for most furniture inventory.

Step 2: Add a QR Code

Click Add QR or Barcode.
Select Sequential Numbers.
Click Next.

Step 3: Configure the Number Sequence

Enter the following settings:

Type: Numbers
Start Value: 1
End Value: Your last inventory number (Example: 500)
Increment: 1
Leading Zeros: 3 (Creates 001, 002, 003…)

Leave the Prefix and Suffix fields blank.

Click Next.

Step 4: Create the QR Codes

Set Industry Standard Format to QRCode.
Set Code Type to Text.
Drag the Sequential Number field into the Enter Barcode Text box.
Click Update Preview.
Click Finish.

Step 5: Resize the QR Code

The default QR code size is very small.

Resize it so it fills approximately 70–80% of the label, while leaving a small white border around the edges. This helps ensure reliable scanning.

Step 6: Preview Your Labels

Click the Preview tab to verify that:

Each QR code is unique.
The QR codes are centered on the labels.
The labels print correctly on the selected Avery template.

Step 7: Test Before Printing

Before printing your full batch:

Print one test sheet.
Scan the first few QR codes with your phone.

Verify that each QR code contains the correct sequential number (001, 002, 003, etc.).

Once confirmed, print the remaining labels.

Best Practices:

Use sequential numbering (001, 002, 003…) to uniquely identify each inventory item.
Apply labels to a clean, dry surface.
Place labels in a consistent location, such as the underside or back of furniture.
Test several labels after printing to ensure they scan properly.

Note: Avery’s Sequential Numbers tool creates QR codes containing your inventory numbers. Some versions of Avery Design & Print do not support printing the matching number beneath the QR code. If you’d like both a QR code and visible inventory number on each label, use Avery’s spreadsheet/mail merge feature instead.
